When young people go to secondary school, parents struggle to let go of their children. They cycle to school themselves, meet up with classmates, and have homework to do. Puberty starts. In short, they become independent and demand self-determination. They want to be let go and go their own way. Clothes, friends, their own space. They decide for themselves how they look and where they want to live, and parents have less and less influence on this.
They are growing up. In the 6 years they go to secondary school, they grow from dependent children into young adults with a will of their own and their own lives.
Group 8 is a registration about this period. Every year, around the same time, the children are photographed in their own bedrooms. The bedroom as a metaphor for independence. In the house, this is the only place where they can truly be themselves. And they can decorate it as they wish. Where they can be angry and happy, where they can receive friends or even boyfriends or girlfriends.
You see the children and their rooms change, they themselves grow bigger and more adult, and their rooms grow with them.
